offer magnum cartridge capability, the timeless BAR continues to offer
bolt action accuracy, reliability and better features each year. An
extremely reliable gas-operated system, high-strength alloy receivers,
composite stocks and now the new LongTrac and ShortTrac models make the
BAR a truly revolutionary rifle and the best choice of any autoloading
rifle on the market.
Safety Lock All Browning firearms are shipped with a free
trigger lock, padlock (shown) or chamber lock, depending on model, to
assist in the safe storage of firearms.
Receiver The Safari model uses a one-piece, ordinance steel
receiver that is richly blued with scroll engraving and drilled and
tapped for scope mounts. Stalker, ShortTrac and LongTrac models have an
aircraft-grade, aluminum alloy receiver, drilled and tapped for scope
mounts. The bolt release lever is incorporated into the receiver.
Sights On open sight models: click adjustable rear sight.
Front sight is a gold bead design dovetailed into a hooded ramp. BOSS
supplied on no-sight models only.
Stock and Forearm The fluted stock design incorporates a full
pistol grip with an undercut and is contoured for use with open sights
or a scope. The forearm is full and hand-filling. LongTrac and ShortTrac
stocks are adjustable using six shims. Sling swivel studs are installed
in the stock and forearm.

Trigger Short, smooth, single stage. Trigger assembly can be

Action Gas-operated autoloader with an extra strong, multiple
lug rotating bolt that locks directly into the barrel. Every cartridge
that is loaded into the chamber of the BAR is surrounded by a recessed
bolt face, which is encircled by the barrel which, in turn, is
surrounded by the receiver. Three rings of steel surround the cartridge.
A seven-lug bolt and precise breech-to-chamber relationship give the BAR
an exceptional degree of accuracy and the strength to handle magnum
loads. The strong and very rigid action bar/inertia block link-up
improves accuracy by reducing barrel vibration. The buffering system
reduces wear and stress on the rifle’s mechanism.
BOSS BOSS-CR (Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System) Available
as an option on BAR Safari rifles. The BOSS allows the shooter to fine
tune the rifle’s accuracy to surpass that of any other autoloader. This
accessory is available for all BOSS-equipped rifles and offers all the
accuracy advantages of the original BOSS without the muzzle brake
feature.
Barrel Individually machined from hammer-forged, heat-treated
billets of steel. Non-BOSS rifles are available with or without open
sights.
New BAR ShortTrac and LongTrac Rifles The handsome European
styling and unique features of the new ShortTrac and LongTrac BAR rifles
join the family of the timeless and most famous autoloading rifle ever.
Both models are quick, compact and easy to carry due to their
high-strength, aircraft-grade aluminum alloy receivers and composite
trigger guard and magazine floorplate. Barrels, produced by Fabrique
Nationale in Belgium, are hammer-forged to ensure accuracy. The proven,
seven-lug rotary bolt system engages tightly into the barrel for the
same accuracy and strength trusted for decades. Both models have shim
adjustable stocks to easily tailor the rifle to particular dimensions.
The ShortTrac is offered in the 270 WSM, 7mm WSM, 300 WSM, 243 Win. and
